I think it's perfectly reasonable to be annoyed. If a company like
VMware or Nvidia want to leverage an open source kernel and yet keep
their main code proprietary, the least they can do is keep their
kernel interface code up to date.
I had run into this problem a while back, and basically left VMware
alone for a while, since I had other things to do. I'm amazed and
dismayed that it is not fixed yet.
