I've recently become unemployed (some would argue unemployable) and I'm
looking for a decent linux laptop.

What do I mean by decent? I'm currently using an IBM T60 which I am
absolutely in love with. I've always loved the IBMs, and pretty much
everything on this works perfectly. Unfortunately I simply can't afford the
$2000 it's going to take to purchase it, so I'm branching out and I'm hoping
to draw on the experiences of others here.

Widescreen is *NOT* needed; I'm currently using 1400x1040 (the NON widescreen
version of the T60), but 1024x768 is too small. Physical size of the screen
is mostly unimportant, but 15" is almost too big. Video power isn't all that
much of an important thing, but something well supported (sorry ATI, you
lose) by X11 would be nice.

Physical size of the overall laptop... I'm actually thinking that smaller is
better. There were some littler Acers at Future Shop that didn't look too
bad. I'm going to have to bring my Kubuntu Live DVD and see how well they
fare, especially in the suspend/resume department.

Processor power: something with VMX; I want to be able to run Xen and get
Windows XP to work reasonably well.

Bluetooth, 802.11abg and 100 or 1000mbit ethernet are requirements.

A serial port would be a WONDERFUL thing, but I'm getting used to not having
one and relying on dongles. Gotta have a touchpad though. :-)

Are there any clear contenders? What about ones to DEFINITELY stay away from?
Any and all advice, anecdotes, etc are welcome and appreciated.

-A.
