so far, i've had good luck buying from tigerdirect.ca.  they're
refurbished, but the discount would appear to be worth it.  in fact,
the main page at http://tigerdirect.ca advertises a gateway AMD-based
laptop for $500 (top left pic), but i don't see it in the list of
available models when i search further.  how odd.
