You're not going to want to have to haul out the drive every time.
Although it would be perfect for on the road / hotel room backup, and
for storing pictures and so on that you don't necessarily need live
every second.
I expect the correct answer is ... both.
The group can correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect you can't go
wrong buying the largest capacity _highest_ speed memory card you can
find. You'll always find a use for it in a camera, as a usb key,
diskette equivalent, or to alternate boot a computer.
I've never 'worn out' a card, but I understand it to be possible.
