You're right of course, but Rob specifically asked for "the best distro 
for home use that just plain works in terms of 
multimedia/browsing/plug-ins/etc."  Ubuntu and friends meet neither the 
multimedia nor the plug-in requirements, in terms of what is installed 
by default.  This is not a knock on those distributions, but there may 
be other distros that fit that particular bill more completely.
