Well, for some users it might be a big deal.  I've heard about recent 
*buntus having a 'restricted driver manager' or somesuch that makes this 
even easier than before.  I haven't seen it in person.  Does it make 
things simple enough for even those people who are scared of their computer?

Also, if the person in question is willing to spend a bit of money, 
something like Linspire might be even closer to the ideal.
