It's not a problem. It will import your old outlook mail. I use it daily 
and it seems just as good as outlook in the major ways, and in some 
minor ways better.  I moved to it after outlook started corrupting mail 
because the mbox was too big.  I don't know if that is (or will be) a 
problem for Thunderbird, but it hasn't so far.
