I was having 'complications' running debian on my laptop (dell) installed
xubuntu and everything just worked.  It was slow though so next I tried
archLinux.  Nothing is quite out of the box, you have to add daemons and 

Why not just install xubuntu and then install a different Window Manager
(IceWM or Enlightenment) and set that Window Manager as the default?
