Personally, I think this is an example of Americans being litigation
happy and suing way to much.

- Intel gave Dell discounts to only use Intel chips.
- Dell did not use AMD, which at the time were clearly better
- Dell paid the price for this lame decision by starting to lose
customers and HP becoming larger in this market

To me, this all sounds perfectly fine. Dell has paid the price for
making the bad decision of sticking with Intel and taking the discounts.

Intel just lowered its prices in an attempt to keep market share, but in
the end it did not work

Why is this going to court?

And yes, I know the theory is that this was "unfair" to the consumers
who bought Dell because they could have gotten a better chip for less if
Dell has sold them an AMD.

Well, to me it sounds like the consumer it sounds like the consumer did
not make an educated decision before making their purchase. Nothing was
stopping them from buying an AMD from HP or someone else. They
willingly chose Dell.

Americans sue way too much.

Just my $0.02
