I think it is a valid case. This is a comparison of two *solutions*,
albeit a very simple solution. Open Source web serving vs. Microsoft web
serving.

The point I got from it is simple: MS software is inelegant and more
complicated (internally) that it needs to be. One should expect the same
from this as with any unnecessarily complicated system: more problems.

It would be interesting to see the comparison you mentioned:
Apache/Linux vs. Apache/Windows.
