Squid is used to cache web pages. If more then one person is sharing an
internet connection this can speed things up since they can share the
cache. For the average person, you can just use the disk cache that is
built in to your browser. There is no real advantage to squid.
Squid can also be used to limit access to web pages. Restrict what
people can see. I hope you don't want to restrict yourself *smiles*.
For it to work, you really need a relatively large office sharing a
connection. It is great for ISP's to use to save bandwidth.
