Feels like the prisoner's dilemma. Individually, you win by
opting for convenience but the social result is suboptimal.

I guess in terms of FLOSS, that means community building.

And I'm still working through all your responses to gauge
the level of community in Ubuntu vs in Debian.
Is Ubuntu (as the name implies) as good a community as Debian?
Or maybe even better because it aims for inclusivity?
Or do we give in to the prisoner's dilimma by using
proprietary material?
