i'm going to explain this once, at which point i'm going to implement
a new policy -- i'm not going to respond to any top-posted submissions
again. ever.

quite simply, top-posting is a ***bad thing***. period. if you
haven't figured that out by now, you really shouldn't be posting to a
mailing list.

the biggest complaint readers have regarding bottom posting is exactly
what was written above -- that readers have to scroll through excess
verbiage to get to the new content. note carefully that this is not
due to an inherent drawback to bottom posting. rather, it is a
consequence of people who insist on replying to posts and are too
freaking lazy to trim the content down to only that which is relevant.

this topic comes up constantly and has been hashed to death too many
times to count on an infinite number of mailing lists. invariably,
top posting is defended by people who are too lazy to take the time to
format their reply properly and concisely.

there is a consensus: top posting is wrong and bottom posting is
correct. deal with it.
