Consider a WYSIWYG-type editor. However, nothing has been found which
allows for maintaining a reasonable revision-history. These editors
seem to mangle the source markup.

There is a good rumour that a mediawiki-compatible editor is in the
works and will be ready in the next few months (i.e. it has commercial
backing)

mediawiki allows this quite easily.

Is an RSS-feed good? I think there might be an extension to email
changes. Watchlists exist, and you can filter out your own changes
from the changelist.

It lacks fine-grained permissions - i.e. per-page unix-style permissions.

But you could lock the entire wiki down except for a few users. This
is simple to do. And it's trivial for an admin to make a new user and
email the user their account information.
