A wiki certainly is a quick solution. But if you're going to be
leaning a lot of weight on this system, you may want to think about
what the effort might be if you were to migrate to another system
later.
I locked myself into an awesome CMS-style wiki way back in the day,
but due to inconceivable problems (data going missing!) I had to
switch. Years later I still have data trapped in that environment.
Now that I'm using mediawiki, my data is trapped there now.
I have mixed feelings about mediawiki - the developer philosophy is
totally wrong in my mind. Migrating again will only be to a CMS which
I fund and manage myself. (work begins in a month or so)

I do believe there are solutions to do email notification. I recall
this being a pretty big topic.
If you do end up swinging this way, I can ask on the mailing list to
confirm this for you.
