We're facing that problem now. We have everything in TWiki, which
might end up meaning that we stick with what we have. (That's why a
"standard" markup like Markdown might be nice.)
How hard is it to keep Mediawiki updated with security fixes? Do
you have to twiddle with a lot of files? Are data and content separated
enough that you can just untar a new version of the wiki and have your old
content and settings preserved?

It's unclear at this point -- I am still exploring. But I may take
