Amen.  This is why, years ago, I gave up PHP to focus on Perl.  They both do 
very, very similar things in very, very similar ways.  I couldn't keep up 
with both.  Now I'm finding the same thing with Perl and Python, and I'm 
letting go of my Perl knowledge.

There isn't any "best" -- there's best for a given problem set, and 
there's "it may not be best, but it's close enough for me."

I used to think that having a dozen languages under my belt was "leet" -- 
people used to smile at me and walk away.  :-)  Now, having the basics down 
in a dozen or more languages is sufficient, and fluency in one or two is what 
I find admirable.
