[kwlug disc.] Anybody tried the Neuros OSD?

So over the past year I have been playing around with MythTV, Knoppmyth
and trying to squeeze a VIA EPIA motherboard into a snazzy wooden box
that will look cool in my living room.

My success has been only moderate, and I am getting tired of thinking
about the hardware. I am a programmer damn it, I don't understand your
fancy "molecule"-based systems! Give me bits or give me death!

...

Moving swiftly along, I have started looking at my options: a fanless case
for the hardware I have or some kind of pre-built embedded type system.
The media centre type cases seem to run around the $300USD, but so
does an AppleTV.

The AppleTV appears to have a mythfrontend plugin now
<http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/MythTV> but being closed-source and all
it would make the baby penguins cry. The Nintendo Wii seems like it might
have possibilities, but still with the closed-source and baby penguin tears.

Another alternative I the have found is the Neuros OSD
<http://open.neurostechnology.com/> which is an media centre device which
is based upon and supports open source software. The reviews seems largely
positive, and playing with this type of box seems like it might be amusing.
Mr. Torvald has even commented upon it. <http://kerneltrap.org/node/8382>

Has anyone had any experience with the Neuros or knows anyone who has?
Or heard anythig about the company and their behaviour?

Would anyone have suggestions for other open-source media centre device
options?

Andrew
