[kwlug disc.] Logitech Harmony Remote

I got a good deal on a Logitech Harmony remote control at a store
closing sale in Toronto. Unfortunately, though it is configured with a
web browser, updating the remote requires software that only runs on
Windows. So, I thought that I would complain to technical support about
the lack of Linux support. I got this reply:

"We are very sorry that we do not currently offer support for Linux
operating systems. We are considering offering support in the future but
unfortunately there are no immediate plans to do so. We understand there
is a significant user base requesting this feature. The real difficulty
would be providing support for it, as there is no one "Linux" operating
system with a consistent desktop environment. Providing an application
for it would also mean that we would have to have a working knowledge of
every Linux variant on the market, as well as having users expect us to
troubleshoot issues for them. Ultimately, this is not possible at this
time.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, but would like to
remind you that the remote, once configured, is intended to be used
separately from the PC
Regards,

Harmony Technical Support"

Do tech support people have a list of excuses that they refer to when
Linux users ask for support?
"Excuse no.3: There are too many versions of Linux."
