[kwlug disc.] So ... why use SDF?

So ... from the perspective of a K-W Lug member, i.e. not someone in
China, why would SDF be useful? I've listed some points below - please
correct, update, add, your thoughts.
0. Supporting a 'politically correct' entity. i.e. not for profit,
'socially responsible', etc., etc.
1. Non-ISP e-mail (portable) that isn't 'marketing-ified'. Not Google,
Yahoo, MSN, or the like. At a really attractive price.
2. Redundant, essentially 24/7 facilities, which one wouldn't normally
have at your home. Therefore, hardware reliability.
3. Ability to play with NetBSD without committing hardware/software
resources to it yourself, particularly without gaining something new
to entirely administer. [Personally, this point is irrelevant. I can
equivalently play on my own 'Linux box'. Which also means I am already
administering it.]
3a. By virtue of 3., one can't shoot themselves in the foot and be
'down' for an unpredictable length of time. Therefore, software
reliability. Well, mostly. You can kill your own e-mail account, but
you're not going to kill sendmail for everyone, when blundering about.
4. Certain level of anonymity, if desired. One can ssh in, then go out
to the big, bad, internet. (Not with X, but you can proxy.) Posing as
whomever you like, just don't be irresponsible about it. [Personally,
this doesn't matter to me.]
5. For additional monthly / annual costs, host a service, gaining the
reliability points mentioned above. e.g. (s)ftpd. [Personally, other
than e-mail, this doesn't matter to me at the moment.]
Have I missed anything?
I'm not entirely convinced yet, especially given the 'U.S. airspace'
factor, I shouldn't just buy locally.
Thoughts?
