Damn, I should have kept my old Bell swing-dial phone.

It was one of those monstrosities that takes so much power to run
(with actual *bells* inside) that plugging two into one house would
suck so much power that the ringing would become quieter.

Oh the misadventures I had with my acoustically-coupled modem..
