 	I think that changing topic lines is an acceptable practice.

 	I also don't think that we really need to call in Miss Manners to 
be our traffic cop. I do think that we should do our best to be 
conscientious of others by trimming posts, respecting the spirit of the 
people we are responding to, and so on. I also think that maintaining a 
spirit of convivality on the list is much more important than adhering 
strictly to any set of rules.
 	Lastly, I think we should be big-hearted enough to forgive each 
other when we screw up etiquette.

 	My hope is that if we can keep the tone on these lists relatively 
friendly we don't have to worry too much about this.

 	re: signatures -- Short ones are acceptable, as far as I know. I 
am not that thrilled that I am using signatures these days, but I feel 
obligated to pimp my website at every opportunity. My hope is that because 
my signature is reasonably short people don't take too much offense.
