I see. Thanks! - that was a good explaination. I thought they would see
the traffic but not be able to interpret it.

(There are a few WLAN cordless phones that speak SIP VOIP protocol,

You're right, I don't.

The problem with your access point is probably *not* another access

The signal is going up and down like a yoyo - it's good for a while and then
it might go up and down for 10 minutes. I can see two other networks from
time to time - right now I"m using channel 9 and one is on channel 11 [the
channel i was using and it was working until someone else decided that it
was a good number] and the other is on channel 1. channel 6 i have my
cordless phones on and i don't own a microwave. Not having a wireless
connection has greatly impeded my ability to respond in a timely fashion.
Right now i'm sitting in the basement with a wired connection on an old
laptop [and it's cold down here]!! The other pc's i have run windows and i
have two that run linux only - and both have been using ndiswrapper - so
kismet won't work - you can't use windows drivers. I'm not sure if i'm
dealing with interference - but that's what it seems like to me.. or whether
the wireless router is giving up the ghost. It's a DLink - and i could
replace it. Any recommendations on what to buy - i'm assuming a Linksys
WRT. The Wifi detector you mentioned sounded interesting/cool as well.
