RECAP: what we're talking about here is running OpenWRT on an ASUS
WL-500GP, which lori and i have been documenting here if anyone else
wanted to play along. it's a work in progress.

FYI, i'm in the same situation as lori -- i'm running the 2.6 kernel
version of openwrt on this router, which means i don't have wireless
at the moment but that's fine for now as everything is within wired
reach here at chez rday.

i don't think wireless is all that far away, especially if you
choose to pop out the broadcom mini-PCI card and replace it with a
supported atheros (which i'd be tempted to do if i knew where to get
one).

in any event, i used to run openwrt on a linksys WRT54GL, but the
ASUS is more appealing since it has more flash, more RAM and two USB
2.0 ports, and it's still cheap:

mostly, the appeal is the pure hackability -- configure your own
kernel and root filesystem, install additional packages afterwards and
so on. what's not to like?

and i've been a bit slack on updating the info on that wiki page,
but i should be able to get back to it soon and add more info. like i
said, if anyone wanted to play along, feel free to get one and
experiment and let us know what else we can add to the wiki.
