[kwlug disc.] Add Drivers to a Linux Install CD

This email was inspired by the other thread about SATA problems.
So way back before the days of kernel version 2.6.18, I was trying to
install Linux on my Asus A8V-MX motherboard, onto SATA HDDs, and there
were no drivers for the SATA Controller (VIA VT8251...wow and I still
have that number memorized) and I was out of luck. I knew that VIA was
offering drivers, but I had no idea how I could build my own CD or
somehow tell the CD I had (Ubuntu 6.04 I *think*) how to use drivers
I'd give it. Where comparatively, in Windows Land, this is as simple
as a floppy drive and your friendly neighbourhood F6 key.
Does anyone know if this is easier these days? (No, I've not yet
RTFgoogle'd yet)
