I use the Nomachine NX client for remote desktop access via ssh. It works well from both Windows and Linux.

Subject: [kwlug disc.] Remote X -> ssh -> non-local X?

What key term am I missing here? Let alone on which 'device'?

 From a public internet PC I can use putty to ssh home. Through
various local and remote port forwarding, I can VNC, RDP, telnet,
whatever, to wherever I want to on my internal network.

At home, I can use Xming to remote X on various physical and virtual
Linux boxes.

What do I need to do from the public pc to ssh home, then Xming to an
internal Linux box?

And where? e.g. do I ssh in first, then xinit within the ssh? (And
what is the incantation for xdm at this point?)

I have a solid impression that if the box I was ssh'ing to was Linux,
enabling X forwarding (-X or -Y), would make it all just work. But
that box is not Linux.

I've googled, but I'm getting buried in the results. And all remote X
hits I've seen talk about the ssh server being a Linux box.

Thanks in advance.
