This is precisely why I have such difficulty with Verilog/VHDL.  The concept 
that it all runs at once is very hard for me to keep in mind or write code 
with that in mind.  When I'm designing circuitry it's just natural to think 
like that... but with code in front of me I always revert to sequential 
thinking.
