Don't have Linux specifics, but other places you can check, if only on
the web for price sanity checks:
- http://www.canadacomputers.com/
- at least you can dig re: Linux beforehand.
- if you find one you like, check the stock level on the details pane
of the item you're looking at. If only 1 or 2, you might want to call
beforehand and have them set it aside for you. You're not guaranteeing
to buy it, merely that it will be there when you get there yourself.
- they are pretty Linux aware, so at least one of the guys will
probably be able to tell you if they know it to be Linux compatible.
Or that it's not, or that they don't know.
- IMHO, Canada Computers provides a much better shopping experience.

Frequently both are cheaper than Future Shop / Best Buy. Help at
Canada Computer will exceed (but not by much) anything you can get at
the others.
You only buy commodity / disposable items from Costco, not (physical)
quality. Scanners at the price range you're talking about should be
considered disposable.
