Today's Staples flyer has the following

Compaq laptop 15.4", Athlon X2 dual core, 2GB, 160GB for $549
http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=752574&AffixedCode=WW

There is also a Celeron from Acer for $499.

No need to buy refurbished.
