If you are on a Debian-ish system (should be quite similar for others),
you might want to take a look at /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf - especially
the lines:

#supersede domain-name "fugue.com home.vix.com";
#prepend domain-name-servers 127.0.0.1;

Uncommenting and adjusting these will help to make your manual changes
to resolv.conf permanent.
