Has anyone here used Atria's WiFi service to replace "traditional" broadband
connections (DSL/Cable)? I'll be moving into a new apartment this month,
and I'm rather anxious to avoid paying the Bell Canada Tax, and have had
very bad service with Rogers in the past. Can you just use a "normal"
wireless router with Atria to give access to wired machines?
I am in the west side of Waterloo, and have been using Rogers for 5 or 6
years now.
Several years back, they used to have issues, normally on Saturdays for a
couple
of hours. But for the last two years they have been very stable. They also
replaced
the cable modem to be able to sell VoIP to their customers, and upped the
speed of
the connection for free.
I always ponder going to a new provider that is cheaper, but given that
Rogers
have been very reliable, I dread doing it only to have outages and such for
just
$20 a month or so.
Caveat: they charge you more if you do not get the basic cable package.

Theyve cut my connection in the past. My crime? Running a web and email
server. Dealing with them to get the connection restored was not fun either
(I was accused of all kinds of web mischief including running certain
well-known software products that are riddled with security holes - that had
nothing to do with the event). Ill avoid Rogers wherever possible from now
on. They may have improved their technical service standards, but theyre
still the same company.
Id stick with Sentex if the extra charges for a dry loop werent so high
($15/month!). Sentex has always been reliable and they have great customer
support, but theyre only as good as the lines Bell will give them.
