They've cut my connection in the past.  My crime?  Running a web and email
server.

Many ISPs  these days block the SMTP port because of zombie PCs used to
deliver spam.

Initially Rogers looked the other way when you ran an email server. Later
they
blocked the port, and now they allow you to run it through their own SMTP
server, but cap the number of messages per day.

[KMS] Big difference between blocking the port, and just cutting the
internet connection without warning. That's just inexcusable as a business
practice.

I have been running like that for some time with no problems.
(I was accused of all kinds of web mischief – including running certain
well-known software products that are riddled with security holes - that had
nothing to do with the event).  I'll avoid Rogers wherever possible from now
on.  They may have improved their technical service standards, but they're
still the same company.

I sympathize. Talking to tech support who read from scripts is not fun.
Not that it is uniquely Rogers though.

[KMS] He wasn't reading from a script. He was inventing stuff on the fly.
Another practice that isn't acceptable. Out of nowhere I was an "IIS
running spammer" because I had port 25 open.

Hate to disappoint you, but I'm not going to switch back to Rogers anytime
soon. This isn't just some minor quibble.
